Panga Chumvi is a beach-front, eco resort situated right on the beautiful, silvery- sand beach of Matemwe, with the reef and Mnemba Atoll in view. Panga Chumvi has fifteen rooms spread out in foor thatched-roof bungalows with beautiful verandas where you can enjoy the ocean or garden-view. Mchanga Mdogo, Banda, Baharini and The Bungalow guest houses are traditional Swahili hand-craftet coconut wood villas scattered on the whole property, decorated in traditional African theme with wood furniture and beds with romantic butterfly netting meant create a rustic and relaxing atmosphere.

Our resort is easily accessible by car with travel time of one hour from Stone Town and the Zanzibar airport. Our white sand beach extends for over 100 meters at the oceanfront and the entire 10.000 sqm of property is dotted with coconut trees and local flora. We have 15 simple, yet stylish and comfortable en-suite rooms - some right on the beach; others about 30 metres back.
Our restaurant has already gained quite a reputation for its fresh and locally inspired food and fabulous beach environment.
We are unusual in that as well as providing a laidback and friendly place for holidays, we also run retreats for artists, authors, research students. Panga Chumvi offers tranquil spaces to perform yoga and vocational training for study groups.

Our WiFi is avalable through out the resort.
Water is scarce on the island (strange but true), so please regard it as a precious resource. The solar heated water is lovely, and usually lasts for all guests - but it doesn't heat at night.
PLEASE NOTE
Bring aqua shoes for fascinating walks out to the reef at low tide - there are quite a few sea urchins. High tide comes well over the sandy area and therefore its not an issue at all then.
Our white sand beach opens up to the beautiful Indian Ocean, offering breathtaking sunrise and sunset views over the coral reef. Spreading over more the 100 meters, Panga Chumvi beach is one of the largest private ones on the island. Guests can choose to relax on one of the sunbeds or straight on the sand, taking in the beautiful surroundings while enjoying the ocean breeze and warm African sun. For our guests there is a year-round open swimming pool.
Guarded by tall coconut trees and bushes, our garden grows lemons, bananas, papaya and passion fruit amongst local flora, grass and flowers. The garden is open for use and has several areas built for relaxation, with hammocks and lounge beds for reading, sunbathing or daytime naps.
Panga Chumvi Restaurant is located on the beach and has a large traditional style terrace. We source all our produce locally and our daily changing menu is dictaded by the food delivery of the day. This guarantees the quality and freshness of our food. We offer both vegetarian and vegan options for guests with specail dietary requirements. Enjoy our home-made food.
Our bar serves fresh fruits, various juices and cold drinks as well as variety of coffee drinks and alcoholic beverages.
There are currently 15 simple and stylishly comfortable rooms - in 4 lodges. Each room faces out on to its own wide veranda, has a sea or a tropical garden view, and is furnished with traditional hand-crafted coconut wood furniture. We also have extra 2 rooms facing the swimming pool.
All rooms are fitted with ACs.
The Bungalow
The most recent build in our resort, this bungalow host up to 4 peolple in two double connected rooms which can also be utilized as a private suite, suitable for groups. The bungalow is built in traditional African style and has an open roof, benefitting from natural ventilation.
Mchanga Mdogo
This bungalow host up to 12 people in 5 rooms, all of which have individual furnished terraces. All rooms benefit from beautiful views of our white sand coconut tree garden and the Indian Ocean.
Banda
One of our two beach bungalows, Banda neighboring Mchanga Mdogo. Banda holds up to 8 guests in three rooms. The front room has a large teracce facing the Indian Ocean. All other rooms have private furnished terraces and look up to the ocean.
Baharini
Our resosort's gem, Baharini hosts a total 6 people in three rooms. Located right on the oceanfront, with a beutiful panorama of the Indian Ocean and the Coral Reef, this bungalow has a private front beach terrace where guests can enjoy the sun from dusk till dawn. For guests lodged here we can arrange room breakfast and dinner service.

Baharini Ocean view triple room
This room is right on the beach, with a large shady veranda and views of the coral lagoon. You’ll love it because of the light, the sea and the peaceful setting. It is good for couples, solo adventurers, business travellers, and families (with kids).
Beach Front room
This spacious room sits right on the beach with an unrivalled view – facing the sunrise, it opens out on to a large, shaded veranda overlooking the sea, the beautiful white sands and coral reef.
Family room sea view
The large Family room at Panga Chumvi, is situated in a quiet and tranquil spot almost on the beach, ideal for families with children. You’ll love it because it is perfect for families or a group of friends - two large double beds sit in this room a few steps from the beach and the coral reef lagoon. We say 3 pax, this includes 2 adults and 2 children (ask about other rooms), but it can fit another adult for an extra small fee.
